Our ongoing work includes partnerships with the central government, state and city governments, utilities, industry leaders and civil society organisations.
We are supporting government departments and industry stakeholders in the decarbonisation of long, medium, and short-haul freight through pilots and analysis. Since 2018, RMI has published reports on freight movement in India, starting with ‘Goods on the Move: Efficiency and Sustainability in Indian Logistics’, co-authored with NITI Aayog, presented to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. In 2019, we supported the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs through a capacity building documents on Efficient Urban Freight for the Smart Cities Mission. Most recently, RMI and RMI India launched Deliver Electric Delhi – a pilot on the electrification of final-mile delivery vehicles with the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Government of NCT of Delhi.
The Deliver Electric Delhi pilot brings together 36 private sector organisations – logistics providers, e-commerce companies, utilities, OEMs, and charging infrastructure providers – to deploy 1,000 electric delivery vehicles and associated charging infrastructure in Delhi over a year. Under the ongoing pilot RMI and RMI India are documenting the performance and value proposition of EVs to create a replicable and scalable roadmap for full electrification of urban deliveries in Indian cities.
