School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal (SPAB), established by the Government of India, is an Institute of National Importance, imparting education at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in planning, architecture, and allied fields. SPA-B is one of the three SPA’s in India under the Ministry of Education. The School is committed to take up the challenges of physical and socio-environmental development of global standards.
The Department of Transport Planning is one of the eight Departments of SPA-B. It was established in the year 2018 to nurture academic excellence in the field of transport planning and to foster the integration and development of logistics & freight management. The Department aims to train the future transport planning and logistics management professionals, to cater to the human resource needs and hence to contribute for a sustainable future. The Department has well qualified and committed faculty members having expertise in the field of freight management. Besides, it is well-equipped with the state-of-the-art Transportation & Survey lab with high-end work stations and the latest transport related software VISSUM, VISSIM, ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine; along with drone technology, GPS, DGPS etc. The institute library abounds with a number of books and journals in the field.
The Department of Transport Planning offers a two-year (four semesters) postgraduate degree programme ‘Master of Planning (Transport Planning and Logistics Management) abbreviated as M. Plan (TPLM). It is one of the unique programmes in the field of transport planning and logistics management. The programme is multidisciplinary in nature and is the first of its kind in the country.
M. Plan (TPLM) is designed to comprehend and address the issues concerning the discipline of transport planning and logistics management. A special emphasis is laid to the freight management in the programme. This programme primarily offers various subjects of emerging importance such as public transport planning, intelligent transport systems, logistics and freight management, equity and mobility planning, railway, airport and port planning and management, transport policy etc. Besides, this programme also encompasses inter-cross disciplines and inter-disciplinary fields such as transport engineering, geography, economics, sociology, management, urban planning, planning legislation etc. This multi-disciplinary character makes the discipline of transport planning and logistics management very interesting.
